Dutch Language Lessons

The official language in the municipality of Kortenberg is Dutch. Therefore, all contact with the municipality is in Dutch. This applies to the counter, the library, schools, the cultural center, and so on.

If you speak Dutch,

• you'll better understand what official services require of you;
• you'll be able to formulate your questions more clearly and therefore receive better support;
• you'll have more job opportunities or find a job more quickly;
• you'll be able to communicate more easily with your Dutch-speaking neighbors, colleagues, and friends;
• you'll be able to connect more easily with the teachers and other parents at your child's school.

If you speak little or no Dutch, you can learn Dutch with a course offered by the municipality of Kortenberg in collaboration with the Center for Adult Education (CVO).

Classes by Ligo will not be held in Kortenberg this year. For more information on where you can take a course, please contact Ligo.

• You speak little or no Dutch.
• You are at least 15 years old.

Procedure

Step 1: Determine your language level

First, make an appointment with the Agentschap Integratie en Inburgering (Agency for Integration and Civic Integration) to determine your language level.

They will help you find a course and school based on your level, so you can take the Dutch language course that best suits you.

Step 2: Register for a course

Kortenberg is collaborating with the Center for Adult Education (CVO) in 2025-2026. Schedule an appointment with the CVO to register for one of the classes.

Cost

The cost varies depending on your personal situation. For A1 and A2 level lessons, the maximum cost is €187 per course.

More Information

In the 2025-2026 school year, the Kortenberg municipality, in collaboration with CVO, is offering Dutch courses for language levels A1 (1.1) and A2 (1.2).

Classes will take place at OC Berkenhof, Beekstraat 25 in Kortenberg. Each course starts twice a year: in the fall and in the spring.

• Course A1 will take place from September 3, 2025, to November 5, 2025, every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
• Course A1 will also take place from February 1, 2026, to April 2, 2026, every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
• Course A2 will take place from November 12, 2025, to January 21, 2026, every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
• Course A2 will also take place from April 21, to June 17, 2026, every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
